The purpose of plan review is to verify that the plans you are using for new or existing building construction are in compliance with City and State building codes. Plans Examiners will review your plans checking for anything that doesn't comply with the adopted codes and ordinances, make notes, and inform you of any corrections that need to be made. Once the plans have their final approval, you will be notified they’re ready to pick up and construction can begin through the issuance of a permit.
Residential Plans: As a service to our customers, the Building and Safety Division provides a Ten-Day Turnaround Guarantee Policy for plan review of qualified New One- and Two-Family Dwellings. All other non-qualifying new dwellings take longer to review due to their complexity.

Multi-Family Dwellings/Commercial Plans: Commercial projects include offices, mercantile stores, hotels, schools, clinics, churches, restaurants, etc. A commercial plan review is a very complex process and is inclusive of many departments within development services. Due to the various complexities of any given project, the Division can only provide an estimate of the review time, and only for the Building and Safety Division's review. An estimated timeframe will be given during the plans intake process.

During the course of the construction, you will schedule inspections to be done by Field Inspectors who will verify that construction conforms to the submitted plans as approved by the Plan Review workgroup and other related sections.
