The City Recorder is responsible for administering the City's municipal election activities including local referendums, initiatives, and candidate filings for Mayor, City Council, and Judge.

To obtain information on how to run for office, you should set up a meeting with the City Recorder by calling 503-588-6091 or e-mail khall@cityofsalem.net .  The City Recorder will provide you with the necessary documents that must be filled out and provide you with a list of deadlines that must be met.  Other election information, such as campaign finance, can be obtained by visting the Oregon Secretary of State website.

2012 Elections

The following candidates were elected at the November 6, 2012 General Election: 

     Anna Peterson - Mayor

     Chuck Bennett - Councilor Ward 1

     Brad A. Nanke - Councilor Ward 3

     Diana Dickey - Councilor Ward 5

     Warren Bednarz - Councilor Ward 7

The term for Mayor is two years; the term for Councilor is four years.
