Youth Environmental Education Program
| The Youth Environmental Education Program is an outreach program offered by the Water Resources Section of the Public Works Department. It is available to Salem/Keizer classrooms for grades K-5. The program has up to 15,000 student contacts per school year. Presentations focus on Oregon's native wildlife and their habitats. The goal is to foster environmental literacy in elementary school children. Each session is presented in an age-appropriate manner and includes a hands-on project for the students. In addition, discovery hikes in Salem's parks are offered to school groups. The Youth Environmental Education Program is funded, in part, by the Donna Aldrich Fund. Additional funding support in the 2009-2010 school year is provided by the Marion County Water and Soil Conservation District. |
