Peter Courtney Minto Island Bridge Opens to the Public on April 28

April 25, 2017

On Friday, April 28 at 6 a.m., the City of Salem will open the Peter Courtney Minto Island Bridge to the public. The bridge will remain open until June, when it will be temporarily closed to allow the contractor to safely remove the temporary work structures and finish concrete walls, sidewalks, and landscaping.

Teen Short Story Contest Accepting Entries until April 29

April 13, 2017

Short fiction or non-fiction stories (250 to 1,500 words) written by middle and high school-aged youths are now being accepted for the Spring Short Story Contest organized by the Teen Scene at Salem Public Library. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place.

Budget Committee Meetings Begin April 12

April 10, 2017

A public meeting of the Budget Committee of the City of Salem and the Urban Renewal Agency of the City of Salem, Marion/Polk County, State of Oregon, to discuss the budget for the fiscal year July l, 2017, to June 30, 2018, will be held at the Civic Center, City Council Chambers, Room 240, 555 Liberty Street SE, Salem, Oregon. The first meeting will take place on April 12, 2017, at 6:00 p.m.

City of Salem Wins Financial Report Award 16 Years in a Row

For the sixteenth year in a row, the City of Salem has earned high praise for the exceptional quality of its financial reporting. The City was awarded the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Fiscal Year End Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Receiving this award is a significant because it reflects the City’s dedication to transparency and accuracy in accounting and financial reporting. The City has won this award for 19 out of the past 21 years.

30-Day Comment Period Begins March 15 for Housing and Community Development Annual Action Plan

March 15, 2017

The Housing and Community Development 2017-2018 Annual Action Plan is available for a 30-day comment period beginning March 15, 2017. The plan is required for the City of Salem and the Salem/Keizer Consortium to receive funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and is a tool used for the implementation of projects that will utilize funds received. These funds provide community assistance to low income persons in four categories.
