What is Medicaid and When is it an Option
If you make it to age 65, there is a 43% chance that you will eventually receive nursing home care – but only 13% of older Americans think it will happen to them. Even if one does not foresee a need for Medicaid in the near future, advance preparation is key. In fact, the best time to start preparing for long-term care needs is before an actual need arises. It is often challenging to apply for Medicaid, but with the right legal planning, you may be able to protect a portion of your life savings while still being able to qualify for Medicaid when the need arises.
Kathy Belcher is a partner with the firm of McGinty & Belcher, Attorneys and has been helping Salem-Keizer’s seniors and families for almost thirty-five years with their estate planning needs, including long term care, Medicaid planning, guardianship/conservatorship, and probate.
