We Humans and Our Planets

Lifelong Learning Event

From the earliest pre-history we humans have been fascinated by what the ancient Greeks called “the wandering stars," the planets.

Unlike the myriad of stars, the five visible planets, along with the sun and the moon, were the only things that moved in the heavens. Recognizing that the sun played an important part in the seasons, it followed that the planets also must have some hidden meaning and tangible effects upon human life.

They became to be viewed as manifestations of the movement of the gods.  From this beginning, the planets shaped much of early human thought, from theology to philosophy to science.

We will delve into mankind’s ever-changing perception of the planets through the ages. This course is a mixture of the fascinating history of mankind and its planets and the advances in knowledge made by high-tech.  There will be scores of interesting and beautiful slides that will update your knowledge of our solar system.
