Beginning September 29, 2024, two northbound lanes on Liberty Street SE between Oak Street SE and Trade Street SE will close. This closure is required for repairs and improvements connecting the bridge over Pringle Creek with Liberty Street SE.
The project is expected to last four weeks and involve a combination of daytime and nighttime work, weather permitting.
This project, approved by voters as part of the 2022 Safety and Livability Bond, includes replacing non-compliant ADA curb ramps and sidewalks, resurfacing the roadway, and installing improved bicycle markings and safety features. The project is anticipated to be complete by November 2024.
Location: Liberty Street SE, from Oak Street SE to Trade Street SE.
Details: Work begins on Sunday, September 29, 2024. The two northbound lanes will close in phases, starting with the westside (left) lanes, then shifting to the eastside (right) lanes. The work involves excavating and constructing a new concrete bridge approach slab to address ongoing maintenance issues.
Schedule:
- First Week – Nighttime excavation work for the approach slab, starting at 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
- Second Week – Installation of the concrete for the slab, during daytime hours.
- Third Week – Curing of the concrete slab for strength and durability. Limited on-site work.
- Fourth Week – Nighttime grinding and paving from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
Traffic Impact: Drivers should anticipate congestion in the area and plan extra time in their commute into downtown Salem. While travelling through the construction zone, drivers should exercise caution and watch for construction crews.
