Bicycle Registration Program
Bike theft happens
Each year too many bicycles are reported stolen in our community. Help improve the chances of your bicycle being returned by registering for the Salem Police Department's bicycle registration program.
By registering your bike you are providing necessary information to the Salem Police Department like the serial number and other identifying information. If your bike is stolen this serial number can be entered into the local and national databases which can increase your chances of having your bicycle returned. It also makes it possible to file charges against the person in possession of the bike.
Important reminders
-
If your bike is stolen, report it immediately to your local law enforcement agency. For bikes stolen in Salem, please contact the Salem Police Department non-emergency line at 503-588-6123 (select option 1) to file a report.
-
If you sell your bike after registering it with the Salem Police Department, call the Community Engagement Section to notify them of the transfer.
-
Use a U-Lock to secure your bicycle to a rack or sturdy, fixed object.
-
Always wear a helmet. Oregon law requires anyone under the age of 16 to wear a helmet.
-
Ride your bike safely. Always follow the rules of the road and be sure to keep a watchful eye on young riders.
