Free Smoke Alarms and Bike Helmets
You may be able to get free safety equipment from the Salem Fire Department. Contact the Salem Fire Department for more information.
These programs are designed to provide families with safety equipment they may not be able to afford. To be eligible for any of the free safety equipment programs, you must live inside the city of Salem, or within the Salem Suburban Rural Fire Protection District.
Smoke Alarm Program
The objective of the Smoke Alarm Program is to provide a working smoke alarm for every household. Studies have shown the presence of a working smoke alarm increases survival rates in house fires by 50%.
Bicycle Helmet Program
The Bicycle Helmet Program provides free bicycle helmets to children of families who cannot otherwise afford them. The bicycle helmets are funded solely through donations from citizen organizations.
