Adopt a Street
Join the Adopt-A-Street program to help keep Salem beautiful. Groups and individuals can take charge of a chosen street section and organize regular litter pickups. Your commitment is publicized with a roadside sign bearing your name.
Volunteers are provided fluorescent safety vests, gloves, and bags. The rubbish collected is picked up for disposal by City of Salem crews. There is no cost to join, and it’s a great way to give to your community while enjoying the benefits of a cleaner street. Litter along our streets is washed into streams when it rains, so keeping our streets clean is a step toward keeping streams healthy.
Imagine what 16,600 pounds of litter would look like along the streets of Salem. That’s how much 1,980 volunteers collected from more than 180 miles of streets in one recent year. Resident groups have been involved with the program since it started in 1992. Currently there are 90 active groups involved in the program. Their dedication and continued commitment are sincerely appreciated by all who enjoy the clean streets.
