EMS, AED and PulsePoint Information

The Salem Fire Department is a progressive Emergency Medical Services agency that delivers Advanced Life Support (ALS)-level quick-response and back-up ambulance services to the City of Salem. Although ambulance services are provided by the City’s contracted transport provider (Falck Ambulance Northwest), Salem Fire Personnel responds to most medical calls to initiate assessment and treatment of patients. When needed, SFD Firefighter/Paramedics will assist with patient care during transport to the hospital, often taking the lead during serious medical or trauma calls. Salem Fire Department also maintains two back-up ALS Medic Units which are staffed by Department personnel during times of high call-volume. The largest percentage of Salem Fire Department calls, over 70%, are medical in nature.

Falck Ambulance

The City of Salem contracts Ambulance Transport Services to Falck Ambulance. Falck has been providing Advanced Life Support ambulance transport for the city of Salem since 2015. The local Falck operation is part of the larger international Falck team which provides health care in 29 countries with more than 8 million emergency and healthcare services delivered annually. Locally, the Falck staff consists of 80 emergency medical staff dedicated to delivering emergency medical care that meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and cost effectiveness to the citizens of Salem.

Register Your AED - Your Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is a valuable investment and asset to the Salem community. The Salem Fire Department would like to add your AED to our list of known AEDs in the community. 9-1-1 dispatchers are able to tell a caller that an AED may be on-site at their emergency. In addition, this information is very important to emergency medical responders. The department uses PulsePoint AED to track the locations of AEDs in the community.

Hands-Only CPR & AED Awareness - This course is great for anyone wanting to learn hands-only cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, choking relief, and automatic external defibrillator (AED) awareness. You will get hands-on training by Salem Fire Department staff. The hands-only CPR course does not certify you with the American Heart Association.
